Newsletter No.4  September 2004

Dear Myth and Magic Collectors,

Welcome to the September newsletter from the DragonsCavern website.
This month we have news on;

  • Tudor Mint new releases,
  • Changes to the DragonsCavern website,
  • Vote results and a new vote,
  • An interview with the creator of the unofficial Myth and Magic CDRom,
  • Requests.

Tudor Mint new additions:

The second piece in the treasure seekers trilogy from H Samuels is released this month.
Sig 17, The Wizard Treasure, seeker follows The Unicorn Treasure Seeker (released earlier in the year). The final piece, The Dragon Treasure Seeker, will be released early in November. Remember to check that your study comes with the token as once you have all three you can claim an additional piece - the treasure map - that fits between all three pieces.

Changes to the site:

Notice the changes?

The whole site has undergone a subtle redesign. The main pages have all been templated, so it is now much easier for us to make site-wide updates. The search facility has been altered to make sure that the whole image fits onto the pop up window. Please contact us with your thoughts and comments on this.

New section - Subscribers Section:

There is a new area of the website available to newsletter subscribers only. At the moment there is one section available; dragon and wizard related games. These are either online games that use Macromedia Flash or Shockwave, or downloadable applications that are saved onto your computer. At the moment there is;

  • An online Flash version of Spyro the Dragon,
  • Merlins Quest' a Shockwave game,
  • Trogbar' an hilarious Flash based dragon game,
  • Alchemy', a Flash based Rune related challenge game,
  • A downloadable ZXSpectrum emulator program that will allow you to play The Hobbit adventure game from the 1980's.

To access the games, click on the subscribers link on the navigation bar on the top of each page, or use the link from the sitemap. The subscribers section will grow over time, with more sections exclusively for the newsletter subscribers.

Links:

We've added a new website to the links section within DragonsCavern. Now you can adopt your own dragon, and receive a certificate to prove it from the Adopt a Dragon foundation.
The site has been built by an old friend of DragonsCavern. Kevin Palivec, better known as Malathar (he provided the images that we used when we created Dragonsville  in 2003) has been running the adopt a dragon site for several years (in fact when a UK school were creating the online game DragonQuest  - based around The Land of Dragons - in 2001 they adopted a dragon from the site. There was a short feature about DragonQuest in issue 29 of the Methtintdour Times, the magazine of the Myth and Magic collectors club.
DragonsCavern have already adopted a dragon called Brac - you can see him on the website, along with his adoption certificate.

Voting:

Last month on DragonsCavern.co.uk we were asking How much would you pay for a large sized study? The results are:

Less than £40 :   46.66%
£40 - £60:             40.00%
£60 and above:   13.34%

For September we are asking:

How many studies would you like to see released each season?

Take part in the vote using the buttons on the main page, or in the contact or vote section. Results will be announced in the October newsletter.

News and Announcements:

  • An interview with...

Ian Lever has recently released a long awaited update to the Tudor Mints Official Handbook. Released on CDRom, The Unauthorised Myth and Magic Collectors Guide provides buyers, sellers and collectors with prices on every study within the collection. He took time away from the CDRom to talk to DragonsCavern about the project.

There is a full transcript of this interview within the subscribers section of the website.

Requests:

If you have a prototype study, or a rare version of any item please send it to us for inclusion on the prototypes/rare pages. Use the submit form on the contact page of the website. In addition to this, the 'wanted' page of the website lists studies that we are looking for images for. If you are able to help with those, please contact us.

That's all for this month. If you have any news, websites, announcements or comments that you would like to see in the next newsletter, or  if  you are a trader / collector who would like to be featured in an article in a future newsletter, please contact the webmanager .

Sincerely,
